Across Chorley fly tipping is a major issue especially in our rural areas. Data recently published by DEFRA shows that in Chorley there were 1,037 incidents in 2021/22.
Sadly, the Labour controlled Council is not taking enough action to combat this.
In a ranking of English councils that issue Fixed Penalty Notices, Chorley ranked 212th of 266, issuing just 5 fines from 1,037 reported incidents.
In nearby Pendle, the council issued 1,790 fixed penalty notices ranking them 18th highest across English councils.
Cllr Alan Cullens, Leader of the opposition Conservative Group on Chorley Council said:
We all see incidents of fly tipping that blight our alley ways and countryside. Those that commit these crimes need to understand the consequences of their actions and fining the culprits is one way.
I am asking the council to step up their investigations and take the appropriate action and everyone can help by reporting any incidents as soon as possible on 01257 515151.”
