In September 2015 Andrew Snowden, now our candidate in the Hoghton with Wheelton County Council election, was out talking with local residents in Higher Wheelton. He was alerted to a fallen tree on the side of the A674 heading towards the M65. On closer inspection it became apparent that a tree had uprooted below the road level and caused considerable damage to the supporting embankment of the road.
Concerned by the scale of the damage, Andrew alerted the County Council immediately, and throughout the remainder of 2015 and 2016 Andrew persistently contacted the Council to get repair works undertaken. This work started in January 2017 and will take roughly six weeks.
Andrew said "It is really rewarding when you see the results from continued persistence to get something fixed for the benefit of the community. I appreciate that there will be travel disruption whilst to road works are carried out, but this is secondary compared to the damage that could have been caused if this essential repair work had not been carried out. I would like to thank the County Council for this investment in road safety.
