London Mayor Boris Johnson has visited Chorley to see for himself how an award winning Chorley business is preparing to stride the world stage.
Boris visited Shackerley Holdings with Rob Loughenbury, prospective Conservative MP for Chorley. Shackerley is a family owned specialist manufacturer based in Euxton. It has been providing jobs in Chorley for more than three decades and currently employs 100 people. The firm supplies specialist ceramic granite cladding for high profile buildings across the country and has worked on a number of prestigious London projects, including the Hilton London Wembley and University Square Stratford. During the visit Brian Newell, founder and CEO of Shackerley, explained to Rob and Boris that the company has ambitious plans to expand its operations into fast growing markets such as Brazil.
Brian said “We are absolutely delighted that Shackerley was specially selected for this high profiule visit. It was a superb opportunity to show him how we have managed to make an impact in the world of architecture and construction across the whole of the UK. I was particularly pleased to reveal how many high profile projects we have.”
Rob Loughenbury explained that he wanted to champion an innovative local business that is helping to drive the economic recovery. Rob said, “Shackerley is a growing manufacturing business built on inventiveness, hard work and stellar ambition. More than 100 people work here, taking home a salary that means they can support themselves and their families. Businesses like this are the reason that Britain now has record employment and the fastest growing advanced economy in the world.”
Boris congratulated Brian on his growing list of achievements and spoke about his own attempt to open a tile business. Boris said, “This company is a fantastic example showing the deep links between London and the rest of the country. The scale of the ambition at this company is impressive and one thing they are doing is driving jobs all over the country.”
