Chorley Labour has voted against a motion at Chorley Council in support of Buckshaw Surgery and Dr Muttu and his team. Labour Councillors chose to support a different motion, one which focused on criticising the national government, whilst managing to get Dr Muttu's name wrong at the same time! The motion also forgot to mention that private contracts for GPs were a mainstay of the last Labour government.
Dr Muttu's surgery is respected and valued by thousands of patients. These patients have a credible and effective voice in the Buckshaw Patient Participation Group (PPG), which deserves the thanks and support of all those involved in politics - by the way, Chorley Labour also got the name of this organisation wrong in their motion.
The future of Buckshaw surgery is too important for silly political games. Chorley's prospective Conservative MP Rob Loughenbury and local councillor Mark Perks have been working with residents to liaise with the PPG and make sure local people have their voices heard. Labour councillors of course also care about this issue, but unfortunately they see it as a stepping stone to the next election.
