Conservatives believe in helping people to keep more of the money that they earn, not just by increasing the pay for working people, but by cutting taxes for the lowest paid. Because of Conservative policies, for example, someone with a salary of £15,000 today pays just £800 a year in tax – less than half what they paid when Labour were last in government.
This announcement is a massive boost for millions of local families too. By delivering on the manifesto promise to raise the personal allowance to £12,500 and the 40% rate of income tax to £50,000 by 2020, working people will get to keep more of the money that they earn to provide for themselves and their family.
