Every bit of the public sector needs to do their bit to pay off the budget deficit left by Labour, including local government which accounts for a quarter of all public spending.
That is why councils must continue to cut waste and make sensible savings while protecting frontline services. We are also continuing to offer councils funding to freeze council tax and help their hardworking residents. Since 2010 council tax has been cut by 10 per cent thanks to our policies.
This settlement is fair to every part of the country - north and south, rural and urban, metropolitan and shire. We have given councils the power and incentives so that they can promote their areas, support local enterprise, build more homes and back local jobs.
- A fair settlement. Spending power in more dependent areas is higher compared with less dependent areas. For example, Burnley's spending power of £2019.31 per household is nearly £390 more than Ribble Valley, and Newcastle’s spending power of £2,406 is nearly £900 more than Windsor and Maidenhead’s.
- Freezing council tax. For the fourth year in a row we are offering councils funding to do the right thing and freeze council tax. Since 2010, council tax has fallen by 10 per cent thanks to our policies.
- Supporting rural communities. We recognise the problems councils face in providing services in rural areas which is why we are giving rural councils a special grant of £9.5 million to help them deliver services.
Chorley's settlement
With Lancashire County Council, Chorley's spending power is £1,908.56 per household. For Chorley Borough alone, our council will have a spending power increase over last year to £310.84 per household.
Cllr Greg Morgan, Conservative Opposition Leader for Chorley Council said "Overall, this is a good settlement for Chorley".
