Prospective Conservative MP, Rob Loughenbury, has welcomed new figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Chorley has fallen by 515 over the last year.
The news comes as 53,000 fewer people across the North West are now claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance.
Exciting plans for job creation are underway in Chorley at businesses like Kerax, which the Chancellor George Osborne visited with Rob earlier this month, and Shackerley, which was visited by Rob and London Mayor Boris Johnson in April.
Rob said:
“There are now 515 fewer people on unemployment benefit in Chorley than 12 months ago. It is great news that 515 local people are no longer relying on benefits to get by and can now look forward to a more secure future.
“With the economy growing strongly, and jobs being created by vibrant local businesses like Kerax and Shackerley, it is clear that the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working. The strength of Chorley manufacturers in particular indicates that the foundations of a broad based recovery are in place.
We need to keep working through the plan, which is creating jobs and giving more people in Chorley who want to work hard and get on the security of a regular pay packet they can bring home to their families. Mr Miliband and Mr Hoyle's Labour Party have no credible plan to complete the recovery.
