A senior Government figure has visited a pioneering technology company that is enjoying rapid growth after choosing Chorley as its UK base.
Rt Hon Michel Fallon MP, Secretary of State for Defence, visited Ultimaker, an innovative manufacturer of 3D printers. 3D printing, or additive manufacturing, involves building up complex objects from thin layers of material following a computer based design.
The senior minister, who has previously held Government briefs for business and enterprise, heard first-hand about the company’s ambitions to grow and eventually bring its manufacturing base to Chorley. Conservative MP Candidate for Chorley, Rob Loughenbury, invited Mr Fallon to Chorley to see how local businesses are helping to drive the UK economic recovery.
Rob said: “As well as being a successful growing business, Ultimaker is committed to promoting this cutting edge technology in the education system. I’m proud to be able to show senior visitors from the heart of Government just what Chorley entrepreneurs are capable of. This is a fast growing, exciting company with a terrific ethos. Keep an eye on Ultimaker, because it is going places.”
Ultimaker is based on Chorley Central Business Park off Stump Lane and was started by Chorley residents Alex Mayor and Paul Croft. The Chorley team runs a scheme called Create Education, which introduces students at local schools to 3D printing, a technology that is already beginning to change the world we live in.
